The Second Amendment

The intent of the 2nd Amendment does not mean that the right to gun ownership is only to be associated with hunting or any sport. It is rooted in the fundamental right of the people to keep and bear arms to protect their individual liberties promised to us under the United States Constitution. In other words, I have a Constitutional right to protect myself and my family. Here what Joseph Story said about The 2nd Amendment (Joseph Story was on the Supreme Court from 1812-1845):

“The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”

– Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, 1833

I am a member of the NRA and OK2A, and I will support legislation that respects and protects second amendment principles. I will oppose any effort, such as limiting ammunition sales or other free market restrictions, to circumvent that right.
